Recently, it has been revealed that most Americans in the U.S. now support legal cannabis.
According to Gallup Poll, 62 percent of adults under 30, 56 percent of adults 30-49, and 49 percent of adults 50-64 support cannabis legalization. Support is still only at 31 percent for those over 64, but it is clear that as times change, cannabis is becoming more and more accepted. The recent poll answered was “Do you think that cannabis should be made legal?” and the resounding response to such a direct question, in most demographics, was overwhelmingly “yes.”
It is likely that the reason for this overwhelming support is that most Americans are now familiar with the healing and/or recreational qualities of cannabis. They have grown up with the idea that cannabis should not be illegal because it helps people who need medicine, or because it is a harmless alternative to alcohol or harder drugs. These people realize that legalization makes sense, and that prohibition is holding back progress that could be made in the scientific community.
Additionally, an even more recent poll shows that most Americans favor using cannabis as a possible treatment for veterans who suffer from PTSD. A recent Quinnipiac University Poll shows that most Americans think that cannabis should be available in pill form as a remedy for those who have tried anti-depressants and other medications for their PTSD and found that none are effective.
All of these changes point to a general shift in consciousness when it comes to legal cannabis and whether or not it should be allowed. Most Americans are beginning to realize the healing properties that cannabis has, and how it can be used medicinally and recreationally for the benefit of all. As the years go by, surely even more Americans will begins supporting legal cannabis, and we will finally see legalization on a national and global scale.
