A gent caught with more than twelve pounds of weed, valued at £75,000, came up with the unique excuse that he intended to consume the entire quantity by himself…binge smoking, if you please.
The accused, Edward Buchan, claimed that the purchased the marijuana for £1,000. The cops found the stash in a suitcase and Buchan insisted that he intended to smoke all of it in order to get over a recent demise in the family. He said that he is not a drug dealer. But, the Leicester Crown Court has taken a dim view of the entire event. Prosecutor Sarah Munro has stated in the court of Deputy Judge Michael Stokes that he should be prosecuted for drug dealing and that the court should reject his stand of being a custodian.
She points out to the ludicrous disparity in what he claims to have paid for the weed, and its actual cost. Besides, there is nothing that points to his intent of returning the extra amount of cannabis. Judge Stokes opined that if Buchan was holding the drugs on behalf of another party, then it is possible that he did not wish to deal in it.
Defense counsel, Mara Silva-Romefort, expectedly concurs with the judge on this question. However, the judge also said that if the accused is not dealing in drugs and is a custodian, then he needs to prove it. Buchan, meanwhile, has been out on bail.
