Brands lending their names to products is an old marketing ploy. And, it’s been happening with cannabis too. Annie Nelson sells cannabis infused chocolates and Whoopi Goldberg has her own company Whoopi and Maya, which sells balms, bath products, and related stuff…all with a cannabis theme.
Bob Marley’s name now joins the list of celebrities who have put their faith in weed. When known faces and names throw their weight behind cannabis, it gives the product the legitimacy it seeks, and the celebs earn money. Marley Natural is Bob Marley’s cannabis brand and it debuted in Washington a couple of days back.
Privateer Holdings own Marley Natural; Zuri and Shacia, Marley’s granddaughters, attended the launch. The good stuff was earlier available in California. It’s expansion into other regions indicates that the hoi polloi is more than eager to quaff and smoke weed endorsed by celebrities, and Marley, when alive was a lifelong proponent of ganja smoking. It makes it easier for pot lovers to try out the wares being marketed with his name. The various marijuana-related products, that also include Skinnygirl Marijuana, by Bethenny Frankel, show that a little creativity and marketing chutzpah can deliver weed-derived products for the mass market and for niche customers.
