Music plays a beautiful role in heightening and broadening our perceptions when we take weed, or even alcohol. Ghazals sound that much more ethereal after a beer. Once THC works its magic, time and our consciousness expand to envelope thoughts and an inspirational understanding of music and poetry occurs.
Your favorite singer’s music sounds much more layered and beautiful. Basically, there is an enhancement in our ability to appreciate. So, if it’s Dylan that you love to listen to, you’ll discover a deeper meaning in his poetry. If it’s Sinatra, then you’d be struck by the deep, rich bass of his voice and flawless intonations, and wonder why these things didn’t strike you earlier.
Cannabis influences our perception of time. It becomes difficult to separate the past from the present. All our senses are tuned into the present. Time and space designs that constitute music take on a different meaning when we’re stoned. Trance music is a natural choice because of the rhythm patterns it uses. The echo and reverberation effects in such music make time distinctions amorphous and the listening experience even more trippy.
Because time appears to expand when we smoke a joint or two, stoners are actually able to discern time gaps between the notes and enjoy music in patterns that we are unable to see otherwise. Imagine, having the faculty to sense music between notes; music that others cannot sense. This is the reason why many musicians swear by marijuana’s powers that help them create more layered music. In a stoned state, we become more perceptive to sounds that are of frequencies above 6000 Hz. Music that incorporates such sounds appeals to cannabis users.
Experiments have shown that with a more acute sound perception that results from being under the influence of THC, weed lovers can pick up tones that others cannot. The enhanced auditory powers that result from marijuana have been the subject of more than one research. Not only this, our ability to understand sound is raised such that we can even discern and understand words in a noisy environment. Apparently, when stoned, we are in a much more relaxed state and our natural defenses that influence are likes and dislikes are lowered.
Brain mapping of individuals after they had consumed pot showed that the right side of the brain, the hemisphere that influences creativity and emotions, shows heightened activity.
In a nutshell, weed opens up our minds and makes them more receptive while also increasing our abilities to stay focused on the music. Because time ceases to flow linearly and at the rate we are accustomed to, we are able to sense more music with an expanded sense of time.
