Attention: serial weekenders, skilled daycationers and expert chillers looking for another good excuse to jet up to Lake Tahoe: If you are over 21, you may now buy pot at Incline Village—no medical marijuana card required.
That’s right, as of August 5th, NuLeaf is officially Lake Tahoe’s first and only recreational cannabis dispensary.
For the past year, the 2,500-square-foot, cabinesque dispensary (from the same owners as Berkeley Patients Group) has been operating comfortably amongst the redwoods, catering to MMJ cardholders. But last weekend, NuLeaf made its delayed debut to the recreational market (rec sales throughout the state of Nevada began on July 1st), with Washoe County Commissioner Kitty Jung on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The historic moment was lost on no one: Incline Village residents as well as of-age out-of-towners lined up to buy weed without a doctor’s recommendation. All they needed was a valid state I.D. Yep, just like buying wine.
California cannabis connoisseurs may be in for something of a surprise: Because NuLeaf is situated on Tahoe’s Nevada side, all its products—from flowers and pre-rolls to topicals, tinctures and transdermal patches—have been grown and produced in Nevada. (With none of your Mendo- or Humboldt-grown standbys here, this is a time to step outside your box.) The menu also has a wide selection of extracts and edibles. Concentrate lovers can take their pick of wax, oil, shatter and vape cartridges, while those who prefer to eat their high can pick from dried fruit, cookies, caramels, tea, sodas and more.
Although it is legal here for folks over 21 to purchase cannabis products, it’s still illegal to consume them in public. So, while your plans to get blazed on the lake may be well-intentioned, it will definitely be in your best interest to find an under-the-rader space to partake of your goodies. Perhaps a nice hike is in order. // NuLeaf Incline Village is open daily from 11am to 8pm and offers a 10 percent discount to seniors and vets, as well as a rewards program for members; nuleafnv.com/tahoe.
