This weekend I attended the International Cannabis Business Conference (ICBC) after party in Portland, Oregon. The ICBC’s after parties are notorious for being off the hook, and the Portland after party was no exception. DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill DJ’d the event and tore the roof off of the building, and NBA legend Clifford ‘Uncle Spliffy’ Robinson was in attendance hanging out with the crowd and taking pictures with fans. It was the most fun I have had in a long time.
One of the highlights of the evening was getting to try a cannagar for the first time. Cannabis celebrity and all-around amazing human Ngaio Bealum brought the cannagar to the event and was kind enough to share it with some of the attendees, including me. I had heard of cannagars before, having seen them on social media and read about them on cannabis media outlets, but I had never tried one myself. The wait was well worth it.
For those that don’t know what a cannagar is, it’s a cigar-type cannabis product, but it shouldn’t be confused with a blunt. Some other cannabis websites have described cannagars as being cannabis-filled cigars, but that is just a blunt which has already been around for a long time. To be fair, cannagars are a relatively new thing, so the confusion is understandable. But to me, a cannagar is like a cigar but instead of having a tobacco leaf wrap it has a cannabis leaf wrap. A cannagar does not have any tobacco in it.
The cannagar that I consumed at the ICBC after party was wrapped in a cannabis leaf, and had not only cannabis flower in it but also a bunch of cannabis concentrates. I don’t know how the cannagar was constructed so that the cannabis leaf didn’t unravel. I also don’t know what the inside of the cannagar looked like as far as how the concentrates were layered in with the cannabis flower. But one thing that I do know is that the cannagar burned FOREVER.
The cannagar that Ngaio brought, and I don’t know if this is true of all cannagars, literally burned for hours. I came in and out of the toker huddle several times (it was outside of the venue for the record) throughout the evening and not only was it still burning, it looked as if it had not lost much of its length. It was as if the cannagar was frozen in time. I hit it as many times as I could but ultimately had to bow out after probably my fifth time re-entering the session. For all I know that thing is still burning somewhere on Portland’s east side.
I will absolutely be hunting down a cannagar or two in the near future. It would be an outstanding addition to a camping trip. Heefing on it while hanging out by a campfire would be amazing I would imagine. An outdoor concert or different outdoor event would be another place that I may have to put it to good use. Anywhere that a lot of people are looking to get high and keep the session going for a long time is the perfect place for a cannagar. Look for them in your area. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
