Middlebury’s selectboard is finding out what people think about legalizing marijuana.
In May, a marijuana legalization bill was vetoed by Governor Phil Scott, after it passed both the House and Senate last session.
In Middlebury, town leaders have created a survey, asking whether or not the Town generally favors marijuana legalization.
This all started after the selectboard heard from the Vermont League of Cities and Towns.
“They were lobbying against legalization on our behalf because they realize there are public safety costs related to that, so they’re looking after Middlebury’s interest as a municipality, but we felt we really needed to know how residents felt about that,” said selectboard member Laura Asermily.
The survey also asks if the Town favors supporting the VT League of Cities and Towns in lobbying against legalization, and whether or not the Town wants marijuana businesses.
The survey is available until September 8.
You can take the survey online here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T38M8BP.
Paper copies of the survey are also available in the atrium of the Town Offices at 77 Main Street.
