This is going to be a recipe for everyone who has always wanted to start cooking with cannabis oil but has never made it or feel as if they have to buy expensive equipment to buy it. You’re just going to need your oven and a slow cooker (crock pot) and a few other ingredients that you probably already have at home!
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
-Oven
-Grinder
-Cookie Sheet
-Slow Cooker
-Cannabis of your choice
-Oil of your choice
-Cooking spoon
-Cheese Cloth of Fine Mesh Strainer
-Airtight Glass Container for storage
-Patience
NOTE: For every 1 to 1.5 US ounces of ground cannabis you will need 2 cups of oil.
NOTE: Choose an oil that is high in fat and you can use in cooking. We recommend Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, or Olive Oil but if you have a favorite oil you can use that one.
STEP 1
You will first have to decarb your cannabis to get the most out of the product. What you need to do is grind up your cannabis and lay it out on a cookie sheet in a thin, even layer. Set your oven to 240 F and bake the cannabis for 30-40 minutes or until the cannabis is very dry and browner in color.
STEP 2
Pour in your oil and baked cannabis into the slow cooker and stir until cannabis is completely covered in oil. Be sure that there is no plant material clinging to the walls of the slow cooker above the oil.
STEP 3
This is where your patience is going to come into play. You are going to heat your mixture in your slow cooker on the lowest sweeting for about 3 hours. You will then turn the crockpot off and let the mixture cool completely. This can take up to 8 hours. You will then repeat these steps once or twice more. If you want a potent oil we recommend repeating the heating and cooling step 2 more times.
STEP 4
Once your oil has cooled completely for the last time you can now strain the mixture into a glass container. Set up your straining station with either your fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth and be sure your straining device is secure for pouring. Pour the mizture from the slow cooker (you can use a silicone spatula to get all the oil off the sides). Set aside the now empty slow cooker and either press the plant material with a spoon with the fine mesh strainer or squeeze the liquid out with the cheese cloth. Be sure to get as much oil out as possible. Once done, discard the plant material. Store your cannabis infused oil in the refrigerator and use as you would like.
If you used coconut oil and the mixture has become a solid after cooled you can heat it up till it is a liquid before straining. This will not take long and the mixture will not be hot unless you reheat for too long. Be sure to let the mixture cool again completely before storing.
NOTE: We recommend using a mason jar to store your oil. The lids become an airtight seal that will keep your oil fresh for longer.
