The medical marijuana business is getting off the ground in Pennsylvania and numerous ex-pro athletes are among those interested in a piece of the enterprise.
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris, ex-Philadelphia Eagle Lito Sheppard and former Philadelphia Flyer Riley Cote are all involved in medical marijuana proposals they are hopeful the state will approve, according to Julia Terruso and Sam Wood at Philly.com.
Harris is part of a group that wants to open a medical marijuana research and cultivation center in Braddock, a suburb of Pittsburgh, as reported by Sheldon Ingram at WTAE.com.
Harris told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that he never had any issue with pain management. But the NFL Hall of Famer is a strong supporter of medical marijuana.
“I will tell you this, he said, “if it ever comes to a point where I do need pain management, I’d feel very lucky and happy now that we have medicinal marijuana in Pennsylvania,” as reported by post-gazette.com.
Sheppard, who has used medical marijuana to to help with his football injuries, and partners have applied to the state to open for a cannabis-growing in Chester, as reported by Philly.com
And Cote, who was a Flyer for six seasons, is a member of a group that wants to grow marijuana in Pottstown.
